When a domain is registered the domain record needs to spread to all the DNS servers on the Internet in a process called Propagation so that everyone on the Internet will be able to type the domain name into a browser and be taked to its website. This takes a few hours, it varies a lot depending on local networks and settings, but generally domains will be active and usable within 8 hours after registration, but in some extreme cases it can take as long as 48 hours. So take this into consideration when timing the domain registration for your website
